First-Time User Onboarding
When you first launch Cage Keeper, you'll be guided through a simple setup process:
- Create your first team
- Add your first goalie profile
- Learn the key features as you go
- Skip ahead anytime if you're ready to start
Creating Your First Game
- Tap "Start New Game" from the home screen
- Select or create a team and goalie
- Enter opponent information and game details
- Start tracking with the large save/goal buttons
Understanding the Interface
Cage Keeper is designed for use during live games:
- Large Touch Targets: 60x60pt buttons work with gloves and in outdoor conditions
- Instant Feedback: Toast notifications confirm every action
- Live Statistics: Save percentage updates in real-time
- Smart Undo: Made a mistake? Undo the last 20 actions with detailed confirmations

Advanced Filtering
Find exactly the games you want to analyze with 8-dimensional filtering:
- Filter by goalie - Track specific players
- Filter by opponent - Performance against specific teams
- Filter by season - Compare year-over-year development
- Filter by date range - All Time, Last 7 Days, Last 30 Days, Last 3 Months, This Year
- Filter by game type - Separate scrimmages from playoffs
- Filter by performance level - Review elite or struggling games
- Filter by location - Home vs away performance
- Filter by completion status - View in-progress games separately
Goalie Game Score (GGS)
Our proprietary metric that provides a comprehensive performance rating beyond save percentage. GGS
factors in:
- Positive contributions: Saves, clears, and caused turnovers
- Negative contributions: Should-save goals, failed clears, and turnovers
Multiple Goalies
Track multiple goalies in the same game:
- Start a game with one goalie selected
- Use "Add Goalie" during active tracking to add another goalie
- Use "Switch" to change the active goalie during the game
- Review each goalie's stats in summary and history views
Professional Export Options
Export your stats in three powerful formats:
- CSV: Spreadsheet format for Excel, Google Sheets, or Numbers
- Text: Professional reports for sharing with coaches
- JSON: Complete backup with all your game data
Performance Benchmarks
Cage Keeper uses automated color-coded performance indicators:
- Elite (65%+ save %): Playing at the highest level
- Good (55-65% save %): Solid performance with room to grow
- Average (45-55% save %): Foundational performance
- Needs Work (<45% save %): Focus areas identified
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I use the filtering system?
From the Game History screen, tap the filter button to access powerful filtering options. You can filter by season, opponent, location, performance level, game type, and more. Combine multiple filters to find exactly the games you want to analyze. The filters dynamically update based on your actual game data.
How do I export my data?
Go to Settings → Export & Share to export in multiple formats:
- CSV: Open in Excel, Google Sheets, or Numbers for custom analysis
- Text: Human-readable format perfect for emailing coaches
- JSON: Complete data backup with everything you've tracked
Can I track practice sessions?
Yes. Practice is supported via Game Type = Practice when starting a new game.
Is there a limit to how many games I can track?
No! Track unlimited games, goalies, and teams with no restrictions.
Can I sync data between devices?
Currently, data is stored locally on your device. Use the JSON backup export to transfer data between devices or keep a backup. Cloud sync is planned for a future update.
What's the difference between a goal and a should-save goal?
A should-save goal is one that was reasonably saveable - use this for goals where the goalie was in position but couldn't make the save. This helps identify positioning and fundamental technique issues.
What is Goalie Game Score (GGS)?
GGS is our proprietary metric that captures your complete contribution to the game, not just saves. Formula: saves + clears + caused turnovers - should-save goals - failed clears - turnovers.
Troubleshooting
App won't launch
- Ensure your device is running iOS 18.6 or later
- Try restarting your device
- Delete and reinstall the app
Lost game data
If you accidentally ended a game, you have 5 minutes to resume it from the home screen.
Statistics seem incorrect
Check the game details to ensure all saves and goals were tracked correctly. Use the undo feature to
correct any mistakes.
